Chihuahua Temperament: Small, Alert And Graceful

The Chihuahua is a very small dog which accordingly makes it graceful as well as swift and it can easily adapt to any surrounding. This breed of animal can move fast and always has a saucy and bold expression on its face and is compact in size and its temperament can be said to be terrier-like. There are however some Chihuahuas that can become extremely saucy and bold while there are others that can be termed as grumpy or haughty or very nasty, especially when provoked and it is easy for the Chihuahua to get provoked.

Suspicious And Devoted To A Point Of Jealousy

This breed is also known to be very suspicious of everyone other than its owner and it is extremely fond of its owner to which it is greatly attached to and it can reach the extremity of becoming very jealous of the owner. It seems to like other dogs of its own breed but it takes a violent dislike of all others including other dogs and humans. This may lead to it being considered unsuitable for keeping in a family that has small children though there are instances when it be perfectly behaved around elderly people or others and is a pet that loves to get a lot of attention and be pampered and is very suitable for life in an apartment or live with families that have limited incomes.

The Chihuahua has an innate sense of curiosity and is said to be very intelligent and loyal as well as being bold and fearless and can be very brave but in spite of these qualities it may often see these characteristics getting lost in its dislike for others and its suspicious nature. Nevertheless, if it is kept in the right circumstances, it will make an ideal companion. Its loyalty as well as affinity for being closely attached to its master or mistress makes for a genial companion and his small size makes him a convenient pet.

The smallness in size of the Chihuahua makes them suspicious creatures that are often categorized as being high-strung that requires them to be properly trained as well as socialized before they can be considered as suitable companions. Since the size is little as well as them being physically fragile, the Chihuahua may not always be suited to have around small children even though it can become very devoted to the family.

The Chihuahua seems not to be concerned with its smallness in size and is ever eager to confront dogs much larger in size, unmindful of the consequences and is thus very prone to getting them injured. The Chihuahua also does not relish cold climes and this may be attributed to its small size and so one may often find the Chihuahua dressed up in sweaters and coats in the cold winter months. This may be the case for short coated Chihuahuas as the long haired version does not seem to mind cold weather and can do just fine without additional protective clothing. Due to its small size, it is often referred to a mini, pocket, tiny toy and teacup though there is nothing official in these terms.
