An Electronic Dog Training Collar Can Help Teach The Dog To Behave Appropriately
Chihuahua rescues offer you the chance to save a dog that has been abandoned or otherwise lost his home. The rescue took in the dog with the hopes of finding him a good owner instead of letting him go the pound where death is almost guaranteed. The Chihuahua's at a rescue are loving and smart, just like any other Chihuahua. If you are in the market for a Chihuahua and can offer a great home then a rescue Chihuahua may be the answer.
Many times when people hear the term, Chihuahua rescue they think of old and sick dogs that nobody wanted. This isn't true. This is actually a sample of one of the biggest Chihuahua rescue mistakes. You should get all the facts before considering or rejecting the idea of Chihuahua rescue adoption.
As mentioned above people seem to believe that the only dog they can rescue is a sick one. That is not true. Chihuahua rescues have dogs of every age and some are in excellent shape. In fact, many are very healthy once they are adopted out. They may not have came to the rescue in good shape, but during their stay there they have been cared for and treated so they get back to good health.
Rescues will give a dog to anyone, just like a pound. This is quite inaccurate and is, in fact, one of the main differences between a pound and a rescue. Chihuahua rescue shelters are looking for the best homes for their dogs. They do background check to ensure you are going to take the very best care of the Chihuahua you adopt. You have to fill out forms and contracts to even get the dog. Many of the dogs came from a bad home and the rescue is determined they do not have to live like that again.
Rescue dogs are all old and at the end of their life. Many people believe that rescues are only in the business of getting older dogs homes, but the truth is that they have dogs in a range of ages. They may not have many puppies, but most of the dogs are still quite young, around 1 to 3 years old.
Chihuahua rescue shelters are a for profit business, not really a non-profit organization. This misconception is usually based upon the fact that rescue shelters require an adoption fee, usually $100 or more. The fee is to cover the expense of taking care of the dog. While the dog is at the shelter it must be cared for, from basic needs to medical needs. The rescue earns its money to take care of the animals through donations and adoption fees.
Rescue dogs are dogs that have been taken from people because they are vicious. Rescue shelters take in dogs, not take them away. It is not their job to handle people who are not taking car of their pets. They simply take in dogs who have been abandoned.
Chihuahua rescue shelters are a good place to get dogs for breeding. This is a dangerous mistake to make. First of all, dogs should never be breed if their genetics are unknown, which is the case for the majority of rescue dogs. Secondly, rescue shelters aim to keep the Chihuahua population down, not create more. Shelters almost always spay or neuter their dogs before adopting them out.
Rescue shelters get their dogs from people who turn them in. In some cases this is true. Sometimes the rescue will have people drop off a dog they can no longer care for or whose owner has passed away. However, the majority of the time these dogs are rescued from the pound where a certain death awaited them. The general idea of a rescue is to save dogs form being put down needlessly.
Rescue dogs are not for adoption, they are used as service or search dogs. There is confusion over the word rescue and its meaning. The dogs at a rescue are not used to help people or as search dogs. It was the dog that was rescued. Many people think they will get a rescue dog to take home and care for a little while and then return to the rescue later, but that is not what a rescue dog is.
All Chihuahua's from a rescue are well trained. While many of the dogs are older and have been potty trained, many are not obedience trained. They came from a home where their basic needs were not taken care of, so it is doubtful they are going to be completely trained.
Chihuahua rescues are a good place to get someone else a pet. Most rescues will not let someone get a Chihuahua for someone else. This is because each person that wants to adopt must go through the adoption process where they are checked out and where the rescue determines if they can provide a good home.
Adoption a Chihuahua from a rescue is something that should be done after a lot of thinking. It is also not smart to just forget about rescue adoption because of things you have heard. It is a huge mistake to avoid a Chihuahua rescue simply because you have misconceptions about them. Instead get the truth.
