Chihuahua obedience trainingYou should start Chihuahua training as soon as you get your Chihuahua. It is very important to establish who is in charge because once a dog learns they can control you, obedience training is going to be incredibly difficult. There are some cardinal rules about Chihuahua obedience training that you need to follow to ensure that you successfully train your Chihuahua. Be EffectiveIt is important that you make sure your training is effective. This means training your Chihuahua so he can focus and understand what is going on. If your pup is distracted or confused he will have no idea what is going on. He won't be learning anything and you will start to get frustrated because he is not responding. So, have a special area, free from distractions where you work on your Chihuahua's obedience training. Use treats to show him when he is doing something correctly and do not let the training sessions drag on, limit them to about 15 minutes. Be PersistentYou must not let your pup distract you. Chihuahua's are cute and they know it. Your pup is likely to try to get you to play instead of work and you'd be surprised how good he is at doing that. You have to be the boss and let him know that. Help him by keeping confusion down. Use one word commands; don't talk to him in a normal manner. Use a different tone of voice than you use when playing. Also do not overlook progress. If you tell him to 'sit' and he jumps around and then sits – he still did what you said, so reward him. Where To StartYou do not jump right into Chihuahua obedience training by starting with the hard stuff. Begin with simple commands, like sit, stay, come and down. Keep going with one command until he gets it and then move on to the next. You will have to spend plenty of time going over things until he can respond willfully. Chihuahua obedience training is supposed to be business. You have to keep that in mind or your pup will use his charm and cuteness to conjure you into playing instead of working. Don't let your guard down and just keep at it. He will eventually understand what is going on. The next thing you need to focus on is potty training.
